U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)

FraudNET is GAO's hotline for the public to report government fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement of federal funds.

GAO is responsible for assisting the Congress in carrying out its oversight responsibilities pertaining to government programs, activities and functions. Generally, this involves examining the programs and operations of federal departments and agencies, rather than investigating allegations of wrongdoing by individuals. We take complaints from the general public and refer most of them to the appropriate oversight agency, unless we have audit work in that particular area already underway. Because our resources are finite, we focus our audits and investigations on those federal programs and activities that Congress has mandated or requested us to review.

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly encourage you to submit your complaint online using the form below so we may provide you with a more timely response. Complaints of fraud, waste, or abuse submitted via the mail, other delivery service, or facsimile may have delayed response times.

Certain screen readers may not be able to convey the response options in Section I, which may prevent you from submitting the form. Also, the use of some special characters are not accepted by the system. If you receive a special character error message, please make the necessary corrections. If you're unable to submit your complaint online, please submit your complaint via email to Fraud@gao.gov or leave a message with the FraudNET hotline at (800) 424-5454 and an Analyst will return your call.
